I am currently composing my latest cinematic and emotional production music album, entitled ‘Lifeline’. Set for a 2021 release, this is shaping up to be one of my favorites to date. More to follow after Christmas. Here is the current cover art and a short announcement teaser:
For the past six months I have been working with a small, but incredibly talented indie game team based in Cornwall. SAI was another fun project to score the soundtrack for, with an environment focussed narrative. 80% of all revenue goes to conservation charities. Head over to https://studiomutiny.itch.io/sai and check it out!
SAI is a third person action game exploring Celtic folklore and deforestation. Set in a magical forest, players will discover an environment damaged and destroyed by onslaughts of machines. These metallic creatures wreck their way through the land to get to the core of its magic, the Heart Tree. Though its presence is now but a lost memory, the machines remain, determined to find this all powerful entity. As a Druid, protector of the natural world, you must explore this beautiful realm, harness the power that still lingers here, and uncover its dark past. Stop the machines. Protect the land. Save the forest.
As an eco-conscious Indie Games Development Studio, we made SAI because we want to make a difference. We want to reawaken the love and respect for nature we are all capable of. Therefore, we will be donating 80% of all revenue to conservation charities.
‘Fragile Planet’ officially released today with award winning London based ‘Felt Music’. Soon to be heard across TV and advertising. Pensive, sparse piano arrangements with celestial female vocals (Emma Harvey-Lawrence) & subtle strings to illustrate the fragility of life.
Great to be able to announce that I have been invited to speak from a composers perspective at FOCUS – The Meeting Place for International Production event this December. Hosted at the Business Design Centre in Islington, I will be kickstarting the industry speaker presentations alongside the brilliant Gina Jackson.
Steven Coltartwill discuss composing and implementing emotionally charged music for video games, with a focus on his cinematic ‘Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier’ soundtrack using Unreal Engine, and will also showcase current project ‘Just Breathe’. Supported by the UK Games Fund, ‘Just Breathe’ follows lead character Loki as he learns to navigate his anxiety and emotions through a gameplay based on mindfulness.
It’s October PRS royalty day! As always it brings surprises, along with continued sync across Reality TV & Japanese Anime. My unexpected pick this time round is my piano production album ‘In Slow Emotion’ used as additional music for Netflix Original ‘When Heroes Fly’, which won Best Series at the 2018 Canneseries festival. Based on the novel by Amir Gutfreund.
My music is used for TV soundtrack coverage around the world. From Grammy Awards, FIFA World Cup, Japanese Anime & lots more! For the first time, I’ve been given special permission to release an hours collection of my TV tracks as an album. Announcing ‘The Prophecy’, set for release on Apple Music and Spotify November 1st 2019. Original artwork by Frank Victoria.
I’ve been waiting for the right game to score next, an original story that goes away from the expected narrative & can now announce I’m composer for Engine House VFX Studio on ‘Just Breathe’. Selected by UK Games Fund, follow Loki as he learns to navigate his anxiety and his emotions through a gameplay based on mindfulness. Accompany him through his distress, panics, relief and peace. All he can do to progress is to Just Breathe…
Really looking forward to composing the soundtrack. First up is a demo, more news to follow as the game is developed.
"Thanks for your amazing contribution to the project, we could not have done it without you"
Martin Alltimes, Imaginati CEO - Planet of The Apes: Last Frontier
"Throughout the development Steven showed great sensitivity and appreciation for what we're making and we think the end result is fantastic. In all our presentations of the game so far, the first thing people say is how good the sound design and music is. When the next project lands we'll be calling Steven again.
Dan Mayers, Into Light
"We've worked with Steven on the films Downward and The Canister and there was no discussion when it came to our latest film: Ascendance. His music is powerful, beautiful and stirs emotions we often forget we have. Amazing!
Michael Ortiz, Ascendance
"Steven has recorded over 20 tracks for The Repopulation, and was flexible in providing alternate versions of tracks based on feedback. This has included a mixture of shorter looping combat tracks, and longer "theme" tracks. We look forward to continuing working with him in the future."
JC Smith, The Repopulation MMORPG
"I am left speechless, it was beautiful, it was just what I was looking for and the turnaround time was exceptionally fast"
